Full professor position in the theory group

Nantes Université invites applications for a Full Professor position in Theoretical Nuclear, Hadronic or Particle Physics, starting in September 2025. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing both research and academic programs within the institution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting original and innovative research in theoretical nuclear, hadronic or particle physics.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in physics.
  • Supervising and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

Research

The successful candidate will join the theory group. The research focus should be on the phenomenology of high-energy nuclear, hadronic or particle physics, with an emphasis on quantum chromodynamics, including but not limited to:

  • High-temperature QCD and high density QCD, with potential applications in nuclear collisions, astrophysics and cosmology.
  • Phenomenology of soft and hard probes in high-energy heavy ion collisions.
  • Perturbative QCD, Lattice QCD, QCD transport theory. Opportunities for collaboration with members of the Subatech theory group on both existing topics and new research directions will be welcomed.

Teaching

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physics at Nantes Université for a total of 192 hours per year. The teaching language is French; therefore, the candidate must demonstrate proficiency in teaching in French.

Qualifications

The candidate should have:

  • A PhD in Physics, specializing in Nuclear, Hadronic or Particle Physics or a closely related field.
  • Excellent research accomplishments, demonstrated through the quality of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proven experience in teaching at the university level, with the ability to deliver lectures and mentor students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proficiency in French for teaching purposes.
  • International recognition and a collaborative approach to research.

How to Apply

Candidates must obtain the French "Professor qualification" from the National Council of Universities (CNU) before applying for this position (see here for more details). The application for the qualification must be submitted by December 6, 2024. We strongly encourage interested candidates to contact the laboratory management for guidance and additional information regarding the qualification process.

Please send your CV and a brief research and teaching statement to the laboratory management (Head: Gines Martinez, Vice-Head: Pol-Bernard Gossiaux, Head of Theory Group: François Arleo) via email at job_th@subatech.in2p3.fr. Upon contact, candidates will receive detailed guidance on how to apply for the national qualification. To avoid missing the nationwide deadline, we recommend reaching out to the laboratory as soon as possible.
