Visit of the minister P. Baptiste on November 28th

As part of Subatech's participation in the PEPR Science en amont pour le Nucléaire de Fission (Upstream Science for Nuclear Fission) program, we had the immense honor of welcoming Philippe Baptiste, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Space, on Friday, November 28.

The Minister's visit marks a strong recognition of Subatech's role in this strategic national priority program. Led by the Agence de Programmation Énergie Décarbonée (APED) and bringing together 26 French research units, it aims to stimulate innovation by expanding the fundamental knowledge base in nuclear fission over the long term, as well as to strengthen the training of young scientists in and through research. Subatech actively contributes to this program in two major areas:

    • nuclear data for reactors and cycles,
    • chemistry and radiochemistry of actinides for cycles and the environment.

    A high-level official delegation

The delegation accompanying the Minister was composed of:

    • Mr. Fabrice RIGOULET-ROZE, Prefect of the Pays de la Loire region, Prefect of Loire-Atlantique
    • Ms. Aziliz GOUEZ, Deputy Mayor, City Councilor of Nantes
    • Mr. Fabrice ROUSSEL, Member of Parliament for Loire-Atlantique
    • Ms. Katia BEGUIN, Rector of the Pays de la Loire academic region
    • Mr. Olivier GRASSET, representing Ms. Carine Bernault, President of Nantes University
    • Mr. Nicolas CORNUEL, Security Officer
    • Mr. Emmanuel TOUZE, Special Health Advisor
    • Ms. Stéphanie BOUSSEAU, Head of the SDRT

An institutional and scientific welcome in keeping with our laboratory

The visit began with a welcome speech by Christophe Lerouge, Director of IMT Atlantique.

This was followed by a presentation by Gines Martinez, Director of Subatech, who had the honor of outlining the laboratory's research, its role in the PEPR (Program for Accelerated Research in Nuclear Physics) and its essential contributions to the development of knowledge in nuclear physics and chemistry to the Minister.

Two scientific presentations then provided concrete examples of this work:

    • Magali Estienne, a researcher at Subatech, presented the challenges of nuclear data;
    • Gilles Montavon, a researcher at Subatech, outlined advances in actinide chemistry.

    Discovering the laboratory's facilities

The delegation continued the visit with:

    • an immersion in the Restricted Access Zone (ZRR),
    • a tour of the RADIANTES platform, dedicated to experimental research in radiochemistry and used for several PEPR projects. (Presentation of the platform)

    A highlight for Subatech

This high-level visit, rich in exchanges and demonstrations, highlighted the work of the teams and Subatech's nationally recognized expertise. It took place in a very constructive atmosphere and demonstrates the strategic importance of the research carried out by the laboratory. Subatech warmly thanks all those involved in the preparation and running of this meeting.
